HOW TO MØNTAGE
This guide explains how a Klub Montage session works, what you can bring, and what to keep in mind throughout the night.
WHAT TO BRING
We provide basic equipment like cables, adapters, tables, and sub-mixers. Assistance with setup, wiring, and a short sound check is available. If you need multiple inputs, bring your own mixer. For specific cables or adapters, make sure to bring them yourself. Klub Møntage sessions usually have many participants, so keeping setups small is recommended. Guitar and bass amps are available—check in advance if you need one. If you’re bringing a drum kit, please let us know beforehand.
WHO CAN JOIN
Klub Møntage is open to everyone, regardless of experience or background. You don’t need any prior knowledge. The sessions are a space for trying things out, sharing knowledge, and experimenting together. Whether you come with instruments, computer, code, program, self build machines, visuals, or your voice there’s room to plug in and contribute. At the beginning of the evening, we’ll do a short check-in to see what everyone has brought and how things can connect. You’re also very welcome to join as a listener. Each session is different, always unpredictable, diverse, and engaging.
HOW TO PLAY
The sessions take place in 15-minute slots, with around 3 to 6 people playing at once. You can find your group spontaneously during the event, come with friends, or let us match you with others. There are many different ways to approach improvisation, and we actively encourage a wide range of techniques, concepts, and playful structures. In the past, we’ve explored formats such as conducting, live scoring to film or visuals, working with shared topics, associations or emotions, genre-based prompts, passing sounds between performers and many more. Bringing in your own ideas, rules, or approaches is always welcome. If you have experience or just other ideas, bring them to the next edition, we’re looking forward to your suggestions!
TUNING SESSION
We open up the impro slot sessions with an exercise called TUNING SESSION. It’s a guided experiment for experienced & beginner improvisers alike. We offer three simple techniques for improvisation and take our time to dive into a collective concentration and atunement.
VISUAL ARTISTS
There will be at least one (maybe two) projectors that can be used for doing visuals. Unfortunately, we have sparse infrastructure like video mixers, time base correctors and stuff. We’re glad if you bring some!
PERFORMANCE / INSTALLATION
We are also happy to offer space for performance artists who would like to improvise with the sound and visuals in any way possible. It’s also possible to offer areas for art installations. If you want to bring something please get in touch early enough (i.e. a few days prior to the event).
ADDITIONAL INFO
Synchronisation via MIDI or CV clock is possible, the infrastructure will be provided. All sessions will be recorded (w/ date, time and artists present as best as possible). We keep the right to use the records on our SoundCloud later. The most interesting sessions will probably land on cassette tapes. In this case we’ll inform the playing artists. You can ask all team members for help at any time.
