IMAGINARY SOUND BEINGS
WORKSHOP BY MILENA GEORGIEVA | MØNTAGE CAMP 2026
Drawing on music, sound and listening as collective experience, we will be engaging with different dimensions of resonant relations. We will explore micro and macro worlds with our bodies and voice.
Situating ourselves in our bodies, we will meet and trace our edges — expanding them to become a sticky sensing surface in tension, an extension towards the physical and imagined. Sensing a “fundamental resonance” and leaning on “resonance as foundation” we will explore the ambiguous state of listening and (re-)sounding as singular and plural beings.*
We will be seeking sense through resonance, a sense of coexisting in an ec(h)osphere. Diving into the possibility of connecting through imagined sound, blurring our thresholds, we will evoke the imagined into being – becoming imaginary sound beings.
Turning an ear and extending
in all possible directions — in-out and around.
Listening beyond the heard
with intention and attention.
Tuning in and out, amplifying,
emitting, vocalising
Re-sounding with our surroundings,
Stretching toward (Like our existence depends on it), entering
a sound continuum.
There—
where our voice flows in a sea of sound,
our mouths become salty.
The workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors. We will be working with body, voice and surroundings. With the help of a palette of proposals we will engage with movement, unison, dissonance, dynamics, tuning exercises and extended vocal explorations. We will trace different textures, inner and outer landscapes, and activate soundscapes. We will ask: what does it mean to become a plural sonic being? When do we support, interrupt or offer space? From whisper to hum to belt to imagined we will be forming sporadic choirs and dispersing like drops of dew.

Milena Georgieva is a composer and transdisciplinary artist, born in Bulgaria and based in Vienna. In her compositions and live performances she seeks a fluid, unbound sense of music and listening. Her approach is strongly influenced by her background in landscape design – she explores sound as an unfolding, organic dramaturgical space. Through music and sound she sees the possibility to grow unexpected relationships and enter impossible places – utopias. Symbiosis — understood as both emergence and shared experience — lies at the core of her current compositional and collaborative practice. She explores this within her artistic research on lichen and in her work with choirs and ensembles, combining improvisation and score. Further key elements in her approach to sound are noise, texture, and grip as auditory sensations of materiality, alongside process- and space-activating music aspects like acoustic dimensionality, phasing, resonance-dissonance and polytemporality.
Milena performs also under the moniker Yuzu and with the ensemble brrrds+y. Her works have been presented at Wien Modern, Tanzquartier Vienna, Kunsthaus Zürich, Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab, Kunsthalle Wien, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, Wiener Festwochen, Elevate Festival, Unsafe+Sounds, Sonic Territories, VORBRENNER Festival among others.
